Guide

Moo Classic is the original game with more in it. This page lists what a player gets that the original did not give, grouped by part of the game. Each line is one thing. Where a guide explains it, the line links to that guide.

Moo Classic keeps the original's rules for how the game plays. Nothing here makes you faster than the original, and the game is never faster for anyone.

The game and its rules

  • The game is progressive classic: it starts at Season 0 with four classes, moves on to Season 1, and the Dark Lord arrives with Season 2. See What makes Moo Classic special.
  • Experience runs at the original's 1x rate, so the game is a long one. See Getting started.
  • Hunting monsters well above your level pays more experience, up to a cap.
  • Moo Gold, the coin you buy, is the one name for it everywhere in the game.
  • The X shop sells time and convenience only: no boxes and no pets. See The Moo Gold shop.
  • Quest items drop for the party member whose quest they belong to, and quest items can be sold to an NPC.

Our own client and where it runs

  • Moo Classic runs in the browser with nothing to install, and keeps playing when you switch to another tab.
  • It runs on Windows, Mac and Linux as a download, and on Android as a small download that fetches the rest as you play.
  • An Android phone gets a 64-bit app, and a 32-bit one for older phones.
  • A desktop copy updates itself before it reconnects, and a phone or the browser is offered a new build at the login.
  • The browser game takes a new build by itself and reloads at the login screen.
  • The iPhone and iPad app is coming soon.
  • The loading screen shows a tip and your own character while the map loads.
  • The Esc menu has a News window and a Report a problem row.
  • A crash reports itself, and a problem report can be sent from the game with a screenshot. See Commands and keys.
  • Sounds and music download only when you want them, and Don't download sound turns the downloads off. See Options.
  • Frame rate and 3D resolution can be chosen on every device, and the computer can be kept awake while you play. See Options.
  • Phones run cooler by default, at 30 frames a second with the world drawn a little smaller.

Options

  • Sound is set by four separate bars on a computer: Master, Music, Sound effects and Area sound.
  • A phone or tablet has two bars, Volume and Music Volume.
  • The mouse wheel moves a sound bar, and Shift makes the steps finer.
  • Enhanced effects adds the northern lights, rain, thunder and sandstorms, and can be turned off.
  • Show player names keeps every name over the head, and Wheel zoom lets the mouse wheel zoom out.
  • Whisper sound plays a sound for a whisper, and Tap inspects is for touch screens. See Options.

Phone controls

  • A big skill button for the skill you picked on the bar, with three side slots of their own.
  • A basic attack button, a pick-up button, and a PvE and PvP target switch.
  • Drag from the skill button to aim a direction skill, with the fan of arrows for skills that spread.
  • Area skills show where they will land on the ground, and a skill you hold still shows its tooltip.
  • Hold a button to open the skill list and set a skill to a slot.
  • Pinch with two fingers to zoom the camera in and out.
  • Double tap uses an item.
  • In PvP mode a phone never picks a monster as the target.
  • Phone windows and menus are sized for a finger.

Windows and menus

  • The D window has Player and Guild tabs with Trade, Buy, Party, Request to Join, Follow, Whisper, Add Friend and Duel. See Party, PK and commands.
  • A party has a Party Rules window, and its leader can hand the party to another member.
  • Request to Join lets a player ask to enter a party whose leader allows it.
  • Party zen can be shared out of town, or left to the one who picks it up. See Party, PK and commands.
  • Zen you pick up shows as "N Zen Obtained" under your experience lines.
  • Global Chat reaches every player from level 10.
  • Chat has prefixes for your party, your guild and your alliance, and friends can share chat rooms of their own. See Party, PK and commands.
  • Macros on the number keys say a line for you, with Alt.
  • A right-click on a bag item uses it, or sells it to an open shop, or moves it into an open vault, trade or mix box.
  • A right-click on a party card casts a heal or a buff at that member.
  • The TAB map shows the warp gates and the NPCs, with their names, and the gates name the map they lead to.
  • On the TAB map you can ping a spot for your party, or set a pin that stays for 15 minutes. See New in Moo Classic: maps and experiences.
  • Ale shows in the buff row with its time left.
  • Buff times and strengths come from the server, so the timers show the real time left.
  • Buff icons sit along the top edge, a little larger, and stay put when a side window opens.
  • A trade is reset whole when it ends, whether by a cancel, a refusal or a map change.
  • The personal store can show its title over your head, and /view store on shows or hides it. See Commands and keys.
  • When you arrive in a town that trades in a currency of its own, a line tells you which.
  • The target bar grows to fit a long monster name.
  • The health of a monster shows to everyone who is watching its fight.

The Moo Helper

  • The Moo Helper hunts, picks up, repairs, drinks potions and casts your buffs while you are away. See The Moo Helper.
  • It has a Roam mode: a hunting circle that goes with the hero, sized by you.
  • Follow party leader keeps it at the side of the leader, wherever the leader hunts.
  • Return home brings it back to where it started, and Set here moves its home.
  • It picks up the kinds of item you choose, or the items you name, and leaves the items you dropped yourself alone.
  • It repairs a worn item at the yellow mark, one item at a time.
  • It keeps fighting when it is under pressure, and finishes off a monster that is already hurt.
  • An Elf's helper heals herself first, then the party, and buffs her own side and the party's.
  • It works in towns, pauses in a safe zone and in a shop, and switches off when you die.
  • It pays by the minute, and the window shows the price before you start.

Combat and skills

  • A Blade Knight's Swell Life lasts longer the more stats the knight has. See Skills.
  • An Elf's buffs are stronger and last longer as her Energy rises. See Skills.
  • Mana Shield casts on a party member as well as on yourself.
  • Support skills cast in a safe zone, so you can buff a party member in town.
  • Teleport reaches farther than in the original.
  • Triple Shot's arrows fly through NPCs and other players, and only a monster ends them.
  • A scroll or orb asks for the skill's level before it can be read, and its tooltip says what is missing.
  • Cyclone and the other sword skills end without a freeze.
  • Skill icons are repainted in a flat, hand-painted style. See Skills.

Summons

  • An Elf's summons take their Elf's fights and guard her. See Summons.
  • The shops sell only the lowest summon orbs, and the others drop from monsters. See Summons.
  • A Scroll of Taunt pulls the monsters near you onto you for 24 hours. See The Moo Gold shop.

Drops and the economy

  • Event boxes give every class an even chance of a usable item.
  • Box of Kundun can give excellent rings and pendants, and Kanturu's bosses drop jewels. See Jewels and upgrades.
  • Kalima 7 has the 380 armours. See Kalima.
  • Golden monsters roam the towns, and a Golden Cowbell in the Moo Gold shop brings your own Golden Moo. See Invasions.
  • The Golden Member bonus belongs to the account, so every character on it gets it. See The Moo Gold shop.
  • Gold Member shows a small crown beside the name.
  • The Stat Reset gives back the raised stats, so you can spend the points again. See Stats and builds.
  • The stat scrolls raise attack speed, Defense, Wrath, Wizardry and Mana, and the Charm of Luck adds to Soul, Life and Chaos mixes. See The Moo Gold shop and Jewels and upgrades.
  • The PK Clear Scroll clears your PK status for any number of kills. See Party, PK and commands.
  • Goblin Points buy the tickets for Devil Square and Blood Castle. See The Moo Gold shop.
